It is a well know fact that "creativity" comes from the right side of the brain. Creativity expresses itself in a myriad of ways. What would a church look like that tries to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of the local art community? How can the church breakdown the barriers that prevent "artsy" people from coming to a saving knowledge of our Savior, Jesus Christ? How can the church best disciple people with artistic temperaments?
These are very real and timely questions that need to be addressed. We no longer can ignore this affinity group. It is this group of cultural creatives that drive our culture through it's art. They are the ones who communicate to our society what is considered to be "normal."
Who is reaching the creative for the Creator?
Kerry Jackson - Church Planting Missionary - Cultural Creatives
In February, 2008, the North American Mission Board asked me to transition from my role as Exhibit/Design Staff Artist to a new role as a missionary to Cultural Creatives. Through Mission Service Corps (MSC), my wife, Twyla, and I lead in a church planting initiative that, we pray, will result in a multiplying church planting movement among Cultural Creatives. I thank God for the vision he has given us. I pray that He will use us in this ministry in ways we could never imagine.
A Resource To Help You Reach Your Local Art Community!
Atlanta, Georgia is my home base and my "laboratory." It is here that I get to experiment with church planting among Cultural Creatives through Bezalel Church.
I am by no means an expert in church planting; however, as a visual artist, I feel that I have some valuable insights to share. While I'm learning from both my successes and failures, I pray that I can be a resource to you as you develop a strategy for sharing Jesus Christ and planting new churches in your local art community.
Please explore this web site often as I wish it to be a tool for helping us all learn together to reach the creative world for Christ. I invite you to contact me with your suggestions and questions.
May God bless you today in a very creative way!
